Karnataka Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar today sacked Cooperative Minister BJ Puttaswamy, a loyalist of B.S. Yeddyurappa, from his cabinet over indiscipline.

Shettar said Puttaswamy has been dropped from the Karnataka Cabinet.

"There has been a disciplinary measure, because one Mr. Puttaswamy, he is a cabinet minister under my cabinet. He has participated in so many new party meetings and he campaigned for the new party. So it is an indiscipline in the national party's concern," said Shettar.

"With that indiscipline, our party has taken decision that he has to be dropped from the cabinet. We have already sent the letter to the honourable Excellency Governor to drop him from the cabinet," he added.

Yeddyurappa, who led the BJP to victory in Karnataka in 2008, was compelled to quit as the chief minister in July 2011 after the Lokayukta indicted him into illegal mining scam and also for his alleged role in the irregularities of allotment of land.

Apart from the cabinet minister, BJP lawmaker from Karnataka G. S. Basavaraj has also been suspended from the party for indiscipline.

"In Karnataka, we are giving importance to the discipline. One Lok Sabha member from Tumkur, Sri Basavaraj, he is doing some indiscipline activities. That is why yesterday and today, we the core team of Karnataka, we sat with our national leaders and we have taken decision and Basavaraj is already suspended," said K. S. Eshwarappa, the chief of the BJP's Karnataka state unit. (ANI)
