Activist-turned-politician Arvind Kejriwal formally launched his political outfit, 'Aam Aadmi Party', at the iconic Jantar-Mantar today to mark the historic Constitution Day, November 26, as the Constitution of India was adopted on the day in 1949.
Kejriwal, who had announced the name of his party on Saturday, earlier today visited Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi's memorial at the Rajghat here to pay his respect and thereafter paid his respect at the B.R. Ambedkar Memorial at Alipore Road here.
Speaking to reporters after visiting the memorials of Mahatma Gandhi and of the father of the Indian Constitution, Babasaheb Ambedkar on Monday, Kejriwal said that his visit should not be seen as a part of any ploy as he had simply gone to seek their blessings.
"I am surprised as to why people are asking such questions. Why are you seeing it as only a tactic or formula if I go and pay obeisance to Gandhi or Ambedkar ji? Gandhi ji, Ambedkar, Sardar Patel, Jawahar Lal Nehru fought for the freedom of India. The India they dreamt of back then is totally opposite of what it is today," said Kejriwal.
"Today the common people of this country are sick and tired of the politics being played for the last 65 years and have formed their own party. So by paying our respects to these great souls we are asking them to give us strength and intellect to help us succeed in our mission," he added.
Kejriwal earlier in the day tweeted, " History in the making. Aam Aadmi comes together to directly jump in politics to throw out this corrupt political system."
Kejriwal, National Convenor o the Aam Aadmi Party had earlier on Sunday said that he will tour across the country for the next one year to 'expose' the Congress and BJP while trying to convince people on why they should support his party.
He also made a passionate plea to youth to join him full-time to bring about a revolutionary change in the country's political system and invited all to become the founding members of the party by attending its inauguration ceremony.
The party on Sunday announced its 23 members National Executive including eminent lawyer Prashant Bhushan, political analyst Yongendra Yadav and poet Kumar Vishwas.
Kejriwal is expected to pay homage to the victims and the martyrs of the terror -strike in Mumbai on the day four years ago. (ANI)
