Security personnel recovered a landmine and a computer from Maoist-infested Jhargram district in West Bengal.

Acting on tip-off, the Central reserve Police Force personnel raided the Kushboni forest area and recovered these items on Friday.

According to reports, the computer was used by the extremists for keeping account of information.

The bomb squad officials defused the landmine and the seized computer was sent to Jhargram police station. The police is expected to recover data about Maoist activities from that computer.

Security was tightened in the Maoist hit regions of West Bengal, as Peoples' Liberation Guerilla Army week (PLGA) would be held between December 02 and 08.

In the past few years, the rebels have stepped up their efforts against the government after various locals complained that Maoist activities such as extortion, abductions and killing had increased considerably in the area.

Hundreds of people have been killed and injured in the violence, perpetrated by the rebels as well as security forces in counter insurgency operations.

Maoists have also significantly increased their presence in tribal and rural regions in the states of Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Orissa. (ANI)
