Former prime minister P V Narasimha Rao died of cardiac arrest on December 23. He was 83 and is survived by three sons and five daughters. Rao, the first prime minister outside the Nehru-Gandhi family to complete a full five year term in office, was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences with complaint of breathlessness on December 9.
