A unique contest to become an astronaut has been launched in the UK.

Men's fragrance brand Lynx is giving one lucky Brit the chance to blast off in a rocket and experience a space adventure.

Original Moonwalker Buzz Aldrin, 82, revealed the details of the Lynx Space Academy and 600,000 pounds prize, the Daily Star reports.

The US hero said that space travel for everyone is the next frontier in the human experience, adding that he is thrilled that Lynx is giving the young people such an extraordinary opportunity.

Buzz, the second man on the Moon in 1969 during the Apollo 11 mission, will front a year-long campaign to find 22 astronauts from all over the world.

Information on how to apply will be beamed on all commercial TV channels at 9pm tonight.

According to the report, a replica of the 1.5 tonne Space Expedition Corporation shuttle, which will carry the winner into orbit, will be on display this weekend at the Westfield Centre in White City, west London.

Mark Aschmann, Lynx brand manager, said that 'the Lynx Apollo launch is the biggest and most ambitious in the Lynx brand's history.

He said that they were offering millions of people the opportunity to win the most epic prize on Earth - a trip to space.

Hopefuls can sign up for the chance to win by creating an online profile describing why they deserve to go into space.

Successful candidates will qualify for the Space Academy challenge and undergo Nasa-style physical and mental challenges.

The four strongest Brits will get a chance to travel to the Lynx Global Space Camp in Orlando, Florida, where experts will choose a winner.

To enter, sign up to the Lynx Space Academy at LynxApollo.com. (ANI)
