M Karunanidhi — Grand old man of Tamil politics

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK president M Karunanidhi turns 85 on June 3, 2008. The never-say-die Dravidian patriarch made a great comeback during the 2006 Tamil Nadu polls for the fifth time capping his six decade-long political career. A powerful scriptwriter and orator in Tamil, Muthuvel Karunanidhi began his public life working under social reformer E V Ramasamy Periyar and cast his lot with the DMK founder C N Annadurai, when he founded the party in 1948. From then on he has never looked back, though his long political stint was full of ups and downs.
