New Delhi, Jan 4 (IANS) A Delhi Metro train Friday evening ran over a man when he was crossing the tracks to reach another platform, police said, contradicting their earlier version that he committed suicide.
Vinod Kumar, 40, a labourer from Gaya in Bihar, jumped onto the tracks at the R.K. Ashram Marg Metro station to reach platform number two, breaching safety norms.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Sanjay Bhatia said the man failed to see a train pulling into the station. Before he could save himself, the train crushed him.
A police officer said earlier that the man, who had reportedly come to Delhi to meet a relative, had suddenly leaped before the train.
The death halted train services for 20 minutes at the station, affecting traffic on the metro's Blue Line.
