Bhubaneswar, Dec 28 (IANS) The conditions of cold intensified further in Odisha with Phulbani town in the state recording the day's lowest of 2 degrees Celsius Friday, an official said.

People in Phulbani, the worst hit by cold in the district of Kandhamal, about 200 km from here, were seen warming themselves by burning wood and coal.

The minimum temperature also dipped to less than seven degrees Celsius at many places in the western and northern districts of the state.

The places which recorded a minimum temperature of below seven degrees Celsius were Baripada, Keonjhar, Sambalpur, Sundergarh and Bolangir.

Baripada and Sundergarh towns remained the second-coldest places in the state. Both towns recorded 5.4 degrees Celsius Friday, a senior official of the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre told IANS.

State capital Bhubaneswar and the adjoining district's headquarter town Cuttack, however, remained warmer, recording minimum temperatures of 10.7 and 9.5 degrees Celsius, said the official.

The chill may continue over some parts of the state during the next two days, he said.

The state revenue control room here said there has been, so far, no report of any death due to intense cold in the state.
