Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)] president Sharad Yadav was detained in Bihar's Saharsa town on Thursday when he tried to enforce the Bharat Band called by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to protest the hike in petrol price.
In an attempt to enforce the strike, Yadav along with 700 other supporters took out a processionn at Saharsa town on Thursday. Yadav and others were taken into custody at Sadar police station of the town.
Yadav told reporters that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should resign immediately as his government was unable to control the price of petroleum products and other essential goods.
BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain was also detained in Bihar's Bhagalpur town as they tried to enforce the bandh in the area.
