The shocking murder of a Guwahati-based businessman in Assam's Sonitpur area by cadres of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) has been roundly condemned by the state leadership and the people of the region.

Adilur Rahman, a tea garden owner and hotelier, was killed on November 12. His security guard, Motilal Tirke of the Assam Tea Protection Rifles, was lucky to survive the attack.

Rahman's murder has shocked the community and they have vented their ire by protesting on the streets of places like Guwahati.

"It is a shameful act and the Assam Government should take steps to stop militancy. He was going for his work when NDFB militants shot him. This is very unfortunate and this should not happen again, " said Ramesh Jain.

In a separate incident, Assam Police recently busted an arms smuggling racket with the arrest of seven people.

They recovered arms, including two AK 47 rifles, pistols and over 200 rounds of bullets. The consignment from Nagaland was heading to the Garo Hills of Meghalaya through Assam.

The arms dealing are carried by the ex-cadres of NSCN rebels for Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA).

"We have recovered arms from the vehicle that was heading towards the Garo Hills," said L.R. Bishnoi, IGP, NWR, Assam Police.

Insurgents in the northeast are regrouping to create insecurity in the region. Thousands of innocents have already lost their lives due to insurgent activities. (ANI)
