The National Institute of Disaster Management (NDMA) Stall at the India International Trade Fair (IITF) 2012 has been awarded special commendation medal for excellence in display by Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Dr. D. Purandeswari at the Pragati Maidan here today.
The NDMA participated in the 32nd IITF 2012 from 14th to 27th November at the Pragati Maidan here to bring awareness among general public, students and various stakeholders about managing different kinds of disasters.
The authority put up an interesting information pavilion in Hall No.6 at IITF to create awareness on the activities of the three Organisations - NDMA, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM) that are engaged in the task of disaster management.
NDMA Vice Chairman M. Shashidhar Reddy inaugurated the NDMA Stall on 14th November.
Material on disaster management was distributed to the visiting public on managing various kinds of disasters besides making continuous audiovisual presentations at the NDMA pavilion. About one lakh people visited the stall and commended this initiative of awareness generation among the masses by NDMA.
In addition, the NDRF organised three live demonstrations, two on Earthquake Disaster (16th and 18th November) and one on Chemical Disaster (17th November) to create awareness among the communities about the capabilities of NDRF, sensitize the visitors on disaster management issues and to generate confidence among the public about their safety in such a situation. These demonstrations were held at Hamsadhwani Open Air Theatre at IITF.
More than 10,000 school children and personnel from para military forces, Delhi Police, Civil Defence and general public attended these demonstrations.
Before the live demonstrations, a canine show was also organized by the NDRF, as Canine Squad is an integral and important component of the collapsed structure search and rescue team to find out the trapped victims amongst debris. These demonstrations and the canine shows were highly appreciated by the audience. (ANI)
