This 72-year-old NRI has his roots firmly entrenched in India though he has risen in stature in Britain - his home of 36 years now. Starting out in the family-owned business Apeejay Surrendra Group, the Padma Bushan recipient has indeed traversed a long journey to be the Chairman of Caparo Group.
In a company note, he recalls his fumbling start in those early years. `When I started the Group in 1968, I had no clear vision of where we wanted to be at the turn of the century - it was the last thing on my mind`, he notes. Then, continuing with his characteristic humility, he adds, `And so it is today, for our success in the years to come will continue to depend on the skill of our family and management in reacting to opportunities, whilst continuing with determination, integrity and the principles that have carried us successfully this far.
