Nagaland Home Minister Imkong L Imchen, who was detained after Assam Rifles personnel recovered Rs 1.10 crore in cash and a cache of arms and ammunition from his vehicle in Wokha district on Monday, has resigned from the Council of Ministers.
According to reports, he submitted his resignation to Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Monday.
The Assam Rifles personnel searched Imchen´s vehicle when he was going from Kohima town to Koridanga constituency in Mokokchung district of the state.
The Assam Rifles personnel have handed over Imchen, who is Nagaland People´s Front (NPF) candidate from Koridanga constituency, to the police and the district administration.
Imchen is the NPF campaign in-charge of Mokokchung district.
The assembly polls in Meghalaya and Nagaland will take place on Feb 23.
The votes will be counted on Feb 28.
