Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose...
The name still has an electric ring for all Indians.
But sadly most of us know very little about this great leader, who played a huge role in gaining us all our freedom.
Now, his grand nephew, renowned historian Professor Sugata Bose, has penned a fascinating biography His Majesty's Opponent - Subhas Chandra Bose and India's struggle against Empire to turn the spotlight back on Netaji's life, and away from the 'fruitless controversies over his death'.
In a wide-ranging interview with R Rajesh Kumar, Professor Bose sheds light on Netaji's spirituality, the tender aspects of his personality, his relationship with Gandhiji, his big ideas for free India and shares the most fascinating Netaji stories he has heard.
Can you describe Subhas Chandra Bose's appearance? How tall was he?
I do describe his appearance in many places in my book.
His appearance did change, his attire changed in different aspects of his life.
He was actually 5 feet and 8 and half inches in height, not what you would call very tall.
But the impression his followers got was of a much taller, a towering person. That was because of the strength of his personality.
