
There is no doubt that lipid abnormalities contribute to the maximum number of heart attacks in our country and high cholesterol is a major player, states Dr J P S Sawhney, chief clinical cardiologist at Delhi's Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. Research confirms this.
A study published in the Journal of Cell Science, September 2007, states: researchers at the Saint Louis University School of Medicine found that cholesterol contributes to atherosclerosis a condition that greatly increases the risk of heart attack and stroke by suppressing the activity of a key protein that protects the heart and blood vessels.
