In the 2004 elections, the Congress gave a chance for 45 women candidates while BJP let about 30 of its women join the poll fray.
"But this year, the women`s representation in the 15th Lok Sabha will be much less," feels Vandana.
Ironically, this drop in women`s representation in Parliament coincides with the introduction of Women`s Reservation Bill, which seeks to provide 33 per cent quota to women in Lok Sabha and state assemblies. Though the Constitution amendment bill has been hanging fire for more than a decade owing to lack of unanimity, it was finally taken up by a Parliamentary standing committee during the 14th Lok Sabha.
However, the Parliamentary panel, headed by Senior Congress Member of Parliament E M Sudarshana Natchiappan, gave it one more extension till the constitution of the 15th Lok Sabha after the general elections to complete its task.
