A few hours before Barack and Michelle Obama began walking down Pennsylvania Avenue on January 20, 2009, another man at the other end of the planet made history of a different kind. Though unrelated, the two events of that day had a link: They were based on a Dream.
In Washington, Martin Luther King’s Dream was finally manifested with the inauguration of Obama as the 44th US President. “I have a dream,” said King, “that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: …That all men are created equal. I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.” Thousands of miles away, at the international city of Auroville in rural South India, the Dalai Lama inaugurated the Pavilion of Tibetan Culture.
