The Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government completes a year in office on 22 May, 2010.
The elections were held after a spate of serial blasts across the country, culminating in the siege of Mumbai, which lasted from the 26-28 November, 2008.
Despite the terror attacks and fuel price hikes, the Congress emerged as the largest single party and the UPA came back into power, without support from the Left, but with a cluster of smaller parties.
