When the Janata Party alliance came to power, it got a whopping 345 seats. There is no way that any government with about 64 per cent seats in any parliament can fail to complete its term in office.
But that is exactly what happened. The moment they came to power, they started fighting amongst themselves. Everyone wanted to be the PM. Trials relating to the Emergency excesses of Congress leaders' not handled properly. Indira was arrested, a move that backfired big time. Coca Cola and IBM were kicked out of India. Ultimately PM Morarji Desai himself was kicked out. Charan Singh became PM without ever facing parliament.
You could say that in 1980 the Janata Party beat the Janata Party comprehensively!
