Others grasp at straws, we make laws! - Best of the Lokpal quips

Politicians are famous for the wordiness of everything they say, no matter how crucial or blood boiling the issue. However, sometimes in Parliament they reach unexpected levels of excitement and deliver cracking one-liners and stinging retorts.

Yesterday's Lokpal debate was no different.

Here is our list of the best lines by the best speakers of the day. The order is based on how they performed, i.e. how they said the line, not which angle or political line they were supporting.

By order they are -

Shashi Tharoor

"Others grasp at straws, we make laws!"

"We have our own corrective mechanisms. We don't need revolutions. This law is one such mechanism."

"We don't need a Jasmine revolution. The scent of jasmine is in our democracy." (Referring to the Arab Spring movements)

"For every bribe taker there is a bribe giver. We cannot point fingers and forget the moral responsibility of the society."

"It's time to tell civil society - your views have been heard. Now listen to us."
