Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Member of Parliament Asaduddin Owaisi on Monday surrendered before court in a 2005 protest case. He also applied for bail, according to reports. Owaisi had protested against a road widening project in Medak. A case of criminal intimidation and assault was filed against him.
His brother Akbaruddin Owaisi is also an accused in the case. The MIM president had not appeared before the court since 2010.
According to Patancheru police, the Owaisi brothers along with other MLAs had protested against the then Medak collector Anil Kumar Singhal during road-widening works at Mutangi village of Patancheru mandal on April 16, 2005. They had obstructed officials from carrying out their duties alleging that a place of worship was being damaged, the police said.
The Owaisi brothers had surrendered in court in 2009, and got bail. However, they had failed to appear before the court for the next hearings, the police said.
