Poonch, Jan 16 (IANS) Pakistani guns have fallen silent across the Jammu and Kashmir border but villagers close to the frontier said Wednesday they were digging protective bunkers.

Indian officials also spoke of reports that the Pakistan Army had got some of its villages hugging the Line of Control (LoC) evacuated.

A Poonch district official said named some of the Pakistani villages whose residents have been asked to move out as Tata Pani, Mandol, Khalote and Kahi Gala.

"On the Indian side, villagers in Salotri, Tangari Nalla and Thera have started digging underground bunkers," the official said.

An Indian Army officer asked: "Where is the need for Pakistan to evacuate villages unless it is planning some mischief?"

He said the Pakistan Army had been firing from its posts in Barbad, PP, Daku, Chooha, Battal and Roza.

The shelling had targeted Indian posts at Kirpan, Kranti-I, Kranti II, Khora, Dogra, Chhatri and Atma.

Tensions on the LoC soared this month after India accused Pakistan of killing two of its soldiers while Islamabad said three Pakistani soldiers were killed by the Indians.

India accused the Pakistan Army of beheading one of its soldiers and mutilating the body of another. The LoC divides Kashmir between India and Pakistan.
