Prominent among those present at the banquet included the lone Indian American Congressman Bobby Jindal. The Republican became the first Indian American to be elected to the US Congress in 46 years after Dalip Singh Saund. Jindal won 78 per cent of the vote in his district race against Democrat Roy Armstrong.
