Conservative pundit Dick Morris has insisted that he was keeping hopes alive when he boldly predicted that Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney would win the White House in a landslide.

On Tuesday's 'Hannity' show, Morris said supporters realized that Romney was on the ropes as the election neared, and it was his job to boost their candidate's profile.

"I hope people aren't mad at me about it," Morris, a former adviser to President Bill Clinton and regular Fox News political analyst, said.

"The Romney campaign was falling apart, people were not optimistic, nobody thought there was a chance of victory and I felt that it was my duty at that point to go out and say what I said. And at the time that I said it, I believe I was right," he said before the election.

Some polling, which later proved to be faulty, indicated the former Massachusetts governor was neck-and-neck with President Barack Obama.

Morris predicted right before the election that Romney would snatch more electoral votes.

"We're going to win by a landslide. It will be the biggest surprise in recent American political history," he said on Fox News, adding: "It will rekindle the whole question as to why the media played this race as a nail biter."

But the day after the election, Morris tried to explain himself on his website, acknowledging, "I've got egg on my face."

He said that the polling was insufficient because of Hurricane Sandy and that demographic changes in the country continued to favor Obama.

He said he believed disillusionment with the President would sink the incumbent's campaign.

"I was dead wrong," Morris said.

But he still believes the Republican Party will recover because "this president's policies are wrong." (ANI)
