Kashmir's architectural heritage dating back to the medieval period was brought alive as the tableau slowly moved down Rajpath at the 63rd Republic Day parade in New Delhi on Thursday, 26 January 2012.
The Jammu and Kashmir tableau depicted the tomb of 15th century popular Kashmiri ruler Sultan Ghiyas-ud-Din Zain-ul-Abidin's mother.
The protected monument, made of baked bricks and studded with blue tiles, is a five-domed structure on the bank of the river Jhelum in Srinagar.
Zain-ul-Abidin, popularly known as Budshan ruled Kashmir from 1423 to 1474. The period is hailed as the 'golden' in Kashmir's history.
The tableau also showcased people belonging to different faiths in their traditional attires busy in their day-to-day activities with a popular Kashmiri song 'walo mashooq myaaney' playing in the background.
The song is a shepherd girl's call to her lover and is an all-time hit in the Kashmir Valley
Traditional props like a kangri, portable firepot, tumbaknari, a type of goblet drum, a rug and a carpet were also displayed to showcase Kashmir's rich cultural heritage.
