The Rajya Sabha is all set to hold voting on the SC/ST promotion quota bill on Monday, reports said on Friday.

The voting will take place after the debate on the issue is concluded in the House.

Minister of State in the Prime Minister´s Office (PMO) V Narayanasamy introduced the SC/ST promotion quota bill in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday.

The Samajwadi Party (SP) members walked out of the House in order to protest consideration of bill on quota in promotions.

The House witnessed several adjournments on Thursday as protesting SP members created ruckus on the quota bill issue.

The debate on the issue later started and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Arun Jaitey said: "I will urge the government to seriously reconsider this. If someone has doubtful integrity, then he will still be entitled to promotion."

Bhaujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati said: "I appeal to members of the Parliament to put aside differences and support the legislation. I am happy about the peace in the House. I am hopeful that the Bill will be passed by Parliament."

"Scheduled Castes or Scheduled Tribes need reservation in promotions. The BSP never opposed quota for backward classes," she said.

The Upper House of the Parliament witnessed repeated disruptions and chaos on Thursday as SP members created ruckus over the issue.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh reportedly met SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav on the same day over the issue of quota bill.

However, the meeting failed to break the deadlock, reports said.

In Uttar Pradesh, 18 lakh state government employees on Thursday started a flash strike in order to protest against the Central government´s move to push through the bill, reports said.

Essential services, including water and electricity, were not effected by the strike, according to reports.
