New Delhi, Oct 13 (IANS) Right to Information (RTI) activist Subhas Agrawal Saturday criticised Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's remark against extending the act to public-private partnerships (PPPs).

"His (Singh's) views about dangers of taking PPP under RTI Act are contrary to the act itself which clearly mentions all bodies directly or indirectly funded or controlled by government are automatically covered under the act," Agrawal said in a statement.

"Mostly, all scams are possible by the unholy alliance of private sector with public authorities," Agrawal said in the statement.

Agrawal, who lives in Delhi, is one of the most active RTI activists in the country, having filed thousands of applications.

Last Friday, Manmohan Singh had said that blanket extension of the RTI Act to PPP bodies might discourage private enterprises to partner with the public sector.

A blanket exclusion, on the other hand, might harm the cause of accountability of public officials, he had said.
