Kanpur-based RTI activist Sandeep Shukla has filed a a complaint against senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and legal luminary Ram Jethmalani for his remark against Lord Ram.

In his plea before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate here, Shukla on Friday alleged that Jethmalani´s comment hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus.

The court ordered registration of the case and posted the matter for Nov 24.

Jethmalani has refused to apologise for his comment.

Jethmalani on CNN-IBN show Devil´s Advocate said: "I have no obligation of any kind of apology to anyone. The Press has lost its sense of humour."

He said he had no intention of ´embarrassing´ the party by making the comment.

"I have no motivation to embarrass BJP, I want to strengthen the party," the senior BJP leader said.

Jethmalani said he had ´serious doubts´ whether Lord Ram was a historical figure.

"It´s my understanding to mythology. I have serious doubts whether Ram in that sense is a historical figure," he said.

Jethmalani risked of creating a fresh controversy when he said Lord Ram, who is the protagonist in the epic in ´Ramayana´, was a ´bad husband´.

"Ram was a bad husband. I don´t like him at all. Just because some fisherman said something, he sent that poor woman (Sita) to vanvaas (exile)," Jethmalani was quoted as saying on Thursday.

"Lakshman was even worse. When Sita was abducted, Ram asked him to go find her as she was abducted under his watch. Lakshman simply excused himself saying she was his sister-in-law and he never looked at her face, so he wouldn´t be able to identify her," he said.
