Right-wing groups decry Valentine's Day with protests

Hyderabad: Protests by Hindu groups and a campaign to 'educate' the youth by some Muslim organisations marked Valentine's Day in some parts of the country on Tuesday.

Activists of various right-wing outfits took out rallies to protest against the Day which they felt is a Western concept that goes against their understanding of "Hindu culture".

Wearing saffron-coloured bands on their foreheads and wielding canes, activists claiming to be members of the Bajrang Dal, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, the Hindu Vahini, the Sri Ram Sene, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and others disrupted the celebrations in various districts across Andhra Pradesh on Tuesdeay.

A similar protest was held in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
