New Delhi, Feb 26 (IANS) Maasked robbers struck at a businessman's house in the national capital early Tuesday and escaped with jewellery and cash worth lakhs of rupees, holding the man's young son hostage at knife point, said police.

The businessman's elder brother was injured after he jumped off the first floor to escape the robbers.

The masked men entered the three-storey house in Shahdara in east Delhi from the roof around 3.30 a.m. and went to the ground floor where 30-year-old Arun Sharma, his wife and four-year-old son lived, said a police officer.

"After taking the boy hostage at the point of knife, they tied Sharma's hands and feet and robbed the house," the officer said.

Then, taking Sharma's wife hostage, they went to the first floor to rob the businessman's elder brother Praveen Sharma, an engineer.

When they tried to catch hold of Praveen, he jumped from the first floor and fractured his hand and backbone, said the officer.

Neighbours gathered on hearing Praveen's screams and in the chaos, the robbers escaped.
