Srinagar: Sarpanches of Jammu and Kashmir continued live under the shadow of death as one more sarpanch was gunned down by unidentified militants late Sunday evening, reports said.
The suspected militants had reportedly gunned down Javed Ahmed Wani, affiliated to ruling National Conference in Baramulla district, while he was inside his house in Kreeri area around 7.40 PM.
Wani was rushed to a hospital in Srinagar right after the attack, but the sarpanch succumbed to his injuries.
According to reports, no militant outfit has claimed the responsibility of the attack so far.
This is the fifth time the Kashmir valley is witnessing the murder of a sarpanch in the last six months.
