Beijing, Mar 1 (IANS) An investigation in China's Hubei province has found that seven children living at a child welfare centre died between October 2012 and January 2013.
However, the probe found that all the children died of illness and refuted online rumours that they were frozen to death at the centre in Shiyan city, Xinhua reported.
A joint investigation team of health, civil affairs and judicial authorities was set up to probe the children's deaths and determine whether the centre was guilty of child abuse.
All seven children had been abandoned at the centre with serious congenital diseases, the team said.
Four had heart disease, one was born without an anus opening, one was born premature and one had cerebral palsy.
The centre had sent the children to hospital for treatment, but they all died after treatments failed.
Further investigation is underway.
