Slipper flung at Kalmadi in court complex

A man, identified as Kapil Thakur, on Tuesday flung a slipper at former Commonwealth Games Organising Committee chief Suresh Kalmadi as he was entering the Patiala House court premises.

Kalmadi, who was arrested on Monday by Central Bureau of Investigation for alleged financial irregularities in the granting of contracts for the October 2010 sporting event, spent the night in CBI lockup.

As the Congress MP was walking to the court, the man, first tried to break the police cordon and, when he failed, chucked a slipper.

Kalmadi looked a bit taken aback, but was immediately rushed into the courtroom by escorting policemen.

Thakur, wearing a T-shirt, was whisked away to the Tilak Marg police station.
