Apart from the ruckus in the parliament, Senior BJP leader L K Advani said the Assam violence is a serious issue caused by illegal infiltration from Bangladesh and held the centre responsible for the situation with its blinkers-on attitude.
"Assam violence is not about ethnic riots. It is neither Hindu versus Muslim problem. It is an Indian versus illegal migrants issue," he told the Lok Sabha on Wednesday on the inaugural day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament.
Quoting Election Commission and even Assam's Chief Minister, he said the state is sitting on a volcano and blamed the entire issue on illegal migration and total disregard for not conforming to the Supreme Court directions on infiltration.
"It is not a question of ethnicity. It is neither communal. The infiltration from Bangladesh is a serious issue and the centre is more responsible for it than the state government," he said.
"Failure to implement Supreme Court order on illegal immigration caused this," said Advani.
He said everything he said is endorsed by the Supreme Court.
He said he cannot think of a greater failure of the government than the Assam violence and held illegal migration as a threat to the entire nation.
The Rajya Sabha was adjourned earlier till noon over the Assam issue with the opposition lawmakers creating a ruckus.
The Lok Sabha had also accepted an adjournment motion on the issue.
