Sushma Swaraj openly endorses Modi as PM

Vadidara: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sushma Swaraj on Saturday said that there is no doubt over the fact that Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi is fit for the Prime Minister's post.

"As far as the Prime Minister's post is concerned, there is no queue. But there is no doubt over the fact that Narendra Modi is capable for that post. There is no doubt over the fact that he is capable and fit for that post," she told mediapersons here, when asked whether Modi was also in line for the Prime Minister's post.

Sushma Swaraj is presently in Gujarat where she would be addressing public rallies for the party as part of the campaign for the upcoming state assembly polls.

Modi, known to be a workaholic chief minister, has made visits to foreign countries, including China, Singapore and Japan in an endeavor to attract foreign investments in the state.

Modi, who is looking at a third consecutive term at the helm in Gujarat, is contesting from Ahmedabad's Maninagar seat. Maninagar is a Modi stronghold and he has held this seat since 2002. In 2007, he defeated the Congress candidate by around 75,000 votes.

The Congress has fielded Shweta Bhatt against Modi from Maninagar this time.

Gujarat will go to the polls in two phases on December 13 and 17. The counting of votes will take place on December 20.
