2012 was a year littered with natural disasters, celebrations, protests and elections the world over. Here is a look at some of the key events which defined the year.
A for Angela Merkel - The Saviour
Angel Merkel has proven herself to be the Iron Lady of Europe. She has the fate of the EU in her hand. Her tough austerity measures though hated by many seem to be helping the continent through some of its economically dark days.
B for Shooting mars the Batman franchise
Tragedy struck the town of Aurora when a gunman killed 12 people at the midnight screening of "The Dark Knight Rises". The gunman, James Holmes, who had dyed his hair and referred to himself as "The Joker" was arrested with minutes of the shooting.
C for China's leadership change
China's Communist Party ushered in a change in leadership which takes place once every decade. The party's 18th congress saw a change of guard which did not come as a surprise to anyone. Economic reforms and corruption seem to be some of the urgent issues which need the attention of the new leadership.
