The Nobel Prizes, awarded for glorious achievements in Physics, Chemistry, Medicine, Economics, Peace and Literature, are considered to be the ultimate recognition a human being can get. Presented since 1901, the awards are willed by a wealthy Swedish businessman Alfred Nobel. It may sound ironic - Nobel invented dynamite. Disillusioned with the destruction his invention wrought during wars, Nobel, in 1895, willed his wealth to distribute in the form of prizes “to those who, during the preceding year, shall have conferred the greatest benefit on mankind.” The award consists of a medal, personal diploma, and prize amount, which goes up every year. This year it is 1.3 million Kroner (About Rs 5.7 crores)
