36-year old Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur with her clean-cut boyish looks was a big catch for the Maharashtra ATS, who arrested her in connection with Malegaon and Modasa blasts. Her passion for motorcycles proved to be her undoing; the vehicle deployed in the Malegaon blast was registered in her name.
Pragya`s aggression led her to join the Akhil Bharatiya Vidhyarthi Parishad while she was studying. She holds an MA degree in history from Gwalior University and also a bachelor`s degree in physical education.
Her classmates recall her as a straight-forward person who always stood for national and Hindutva issues. `There is nothing wrong in fighting injustice,` her father Chandrapal Singh Thakur, who is an ayurved practitioner, says.
Pragya became known for her fiery speeches on religion and was even invited to address public meetings in Surat during the 2002 Gujarat Assembly elections. `She was a firebrand speaker,` says a BJP worker in Surat.
`Any terrorist attack in the country angered her. She used to fume at lack of strong steps to tackle these strikes,` says her father.
