The next viral phenomenon: Harlem Shake

Originally a dance form of the 1980s, the 'Harlem Shake' has today evolved to become something else altogether - an internet meme.

The meme is in the form of a video which has inspired several other videos made in the same format, thus threatening to become the next internet sensation.

The video plays Brooklyn DJ Baauer's track Harlem Shake and shows one person, often in a mask, who dances alone, ignored by those around. When the chorus kicks in, everybody in the room starts dancing in crazed fashion wearing outrageous headgear, holding blow-up animals and other accessories.

YouTube says up to 4,000 videos recreating the 30-second dance sequence are being uploaded every day.
