The best way to avoid a terror attack is alertness of the common man. That is what the terror alert in New York City reveals.
A street vendor alerted New York police to a smoking SUV parked with a bomb near Times Square.
Duane Jackson says he saw the Nissan Pathfinder parked in a no-standing zone at about 6:30 pm on Saturday, with the engine running and the key in the ignition.
Police found an "amateurish" but potentially powerful bomb that apparently began to detonate but did not explode in a smoking sport utility vehicle in Times Square.
The vehicle contained three propane tanks, fireworks, two filled 5-gallon gasoline containers, and two clocks with batteries, electrical wire and other components.
