1. Rebecca Black
Google sorted billions of searches this year to list some of 2011's most searched names.
What the world searched for ranges from singers to catastrophes, but it's surprising to note that the one that topped the fastest-rising search list happened to be an unknown 13-yr-old.
The now infamous singer Rebecca Black featured on top of the list of fastest-rising searches in Google this year. The new singing sensation made a big splash on the internet with the release of her pop single Friday on YouTube.
The music video catapulted the then 13-year-old to celebrity status as it went viral, receiving over 167 million views on YouTube.
The singer garnered a lot of hate messages and contempt from some people who found the lyrics to be rather juvenile.
And along with contempt from the internet circles, some critics in the media thought her song was an unintentional parody -- like an accurate reflection -- of the current state of the pop music genre.
