Srinagar, Dec 24 (IANS) Two separatist guerrillas and a police head constable were killed Monday in a gunfight in south Kashmir, police said.

A senior police officer told IANS that the special operations group (SOG) of the state police and troops of counter insurgency 9 Rashtriya Rifles launched a joint operation in Dodhipora village of Kulgam district early Monday following information about the presence of guerrillas in the village.

"While the security forces were carrying on searches in the village they were fired upon by hidden militants, triggering an encounter. Two militants of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) outfit and a head constable of the SOG were killed in the gunfight," said the officer.

Last week, six guerrillas of LeT were killed in north Kashmir's Sopore area in a gunfight with the security forces.
