Kolkata Police on Thursday said that they had arrested two persons in connection with Wednesday's vandalism of the Presidency University.

The arrest of the two persons took place two days after protests were held against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in New Delhi.

The vandalisation on the Presidency University campus occurred first on Wednesday, and again on Thursday.

On Thursday, the student wing of the ruling Trinamool Congress allegedly thrashed students and threatened some girl students with rape.

"They were carrying TMCP (Trinamool Chatra Parishad) flags and shouting slogans. They broke the gates and entered the campus. They beat up our students," Presidency University Vice Chancellor Malabika Sarkar, was quoted, as saying by the media.

Several Trinamool leaders, including Councillor Partha Basu, were caught on camera standing at the gate of the University .

It maybe recalled that Banerjee, Finance Minister Amit Mitra and others were heckled by Student Federation of India (SFI) members outside the Planning Commission office building in New Delhi on Tuesday.

The SFI was protesting the death of its activist Sudipta Gupta in Kolkata Police's custody on April 2.
