Jalna (Maharashtra): Starting his Maharashtra tour from this town in Marathwada region, Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray Sunday criticised the Congress-led government for its apathy towards the drought situation in the region.

Addressing thousands at a rally, Thackeray dared Congress president Sonia Gandhi to come to drought-hit Marathwada region and address the situation. He also demanded that all the farmers' debts and other bills be waived off until the drought situation eases.

This was Thackeray's first tour after he became the Shiv Sena president after his father and founding party chief Bal Thackeray passed away in November last year.

During his Aurangabad visit Dec 16 last year, Uddhav Thackeray had announced that he will start his political tour of the state from Jalna in Marathwada with a public rally.

Thackeray also took pot shots at Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde for his comments on "saffron terrorism".

He lashed out at Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, state Home Minister R.R. Patil and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar stating that no 'Baba', 'Aba' or 'Dada' (nick names of the three leaders) are there to see the woes of farmers.

He also called for a one-day special session of the Maharashtra legislature to discuss the drought situation in the state.
