Man's intrinsic need for a mother figure in his life doesn't end with just a biological mother. He desires a mother who can do things which his biological mother can't do. In other words, he craves for a spiritual mother.
The worship of mother goddesses has been an inherent part of many cultures from ancient times. The mother goddess has been portrayed as a symbol of fertility throughout history. The Greeks' Aphrodite or the Romans' Venus or the Indians' Aditi or Durga are the embodiments of love for a spiritual mother.
Apart from the mythological mother goddesses, mankind venerates or worships certain mother figures who live or have lived among them. Their love for mankind makes them universal mothers. Let's meet some of them.
