Violence in the Valley: Timeline

Mobs on a rampage in Kashmir

At least fifty people have been killed and hundreds wounded in the valley over the last few weeks.

After Amarnath and Shopian, this is the longest period of continued violence Kashmir has seen recently.

Over the past two months, protesters have taken to the streets nearly everyday, pelting stones at security forces and setting fire to vehicles, railway stations, effigies and tyres.

Here's a look at what set off the violence, and how it has played out since.
