Former Gujarat MP Vitthal Radadiya, who was spotted on camera last year as allegedly threatening a toll booth attendant with a gun, resigned from the Congress party on Monday, said reports.

The former Congress strongman has also hinted on his new political inclination by praising the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Narendra Modi.

"Mr Modi has brought Gujarat to new heights of development and he is the prime ministerial candidate of the BJP," Radadiya was quoted in media as saying.

According to reports, Radadiya travelled throughout the country on Monday to submit various resignation letters. He had also met Modi on Sunday.

Despite being an MP, Radadiya had contested the Gujarat assembly elections this year and was among the few Congress leaders to be not defeated by BJP last December.

Reports suggest that Radadiya has quit the party in annoyance as Shankersinh Vaghela was selected the leader of the Congress´ Legislature Party instead of appointing him to the post.

Last year Radadiya was caught pointing a gun at a toll booth attendant after he asked the MP to prove his status in order to escape paying the toll amount.

Seeking self-defence as a weapon, Radadiya had then refused to apologise. However, no one else apart from the scared booth attendant was spotted near him on camera.
