Murshidabad, West Bengal, Feb 8 (IBNS): The West Bengal Police on Friday reportedly filed a First Information Report (FIR) against Union Minister of State for Railways Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury for allegedly instigating Congress workers who ransacked the district magistrate's bungalow here on Thursday.
The Congress MP, however, refused to apologise for the incident.
"You are making a mountain out of a molehill. I will not apologise to anyone. If there is anything wrong, the police is free to take action against my workers and me," Chowdhurytold NDTV.
"We went to meet DM but he refused to meet. Our workers got angry. It´s the DM´s employees who turned violent. I was the one who tried to calm things down," he told CNN-IBN after the incident.
According to reports, hundreds of Congress workers, led by Chowdhury, went on a rampage at the bungalow after the district magistrate refused to meet them when they went to complain about the alleged custodial death of a Congress worker in January.
The workers reportedly broke flower pots, pulled down a sun shed and smashed the windscreen of a vehicle.
