A rose is a rose is a rose

Well it's friendship day once again and the big question that comes up is - what do we give?

Of course you can just tie a friendship band, but another popular gift idea is roses.

While roses can be an easy and convenient gift, it is important to keep in mind what the colors generally signify. Here is a quick guide -

Yellow: The traditional color for friendship. Yellow roses are your best bet. (However, they may prove hard to get).

The yellow rose is symbolic of a strong and lasting friendship and can be handed over to anyone - guy or girl - with little chance of going wrong.

White:
The rare one. These are easily the most expensive and hard to get roses, but they make a great gift.
A single white rose represents purity and truth - a good sign for your friendship. A happy side effect is that with no color, the rose can have no interpretations.

So if you want to give a gift but don't want to give an explanation about your 'feelings', go for this one.

Violet or blackish red: The halfway color that is best avoided. Not only do these roses look dark, but also they have have way too many attachments to them - everything from vampires to funerals.

And they tend to look like red roses left in the shop too long. Go with this if you have friends who like black humor. On the other hand, they make a great ironic gift if you just want to mock the tradition.

Pink: The actual halfway color. Want to give a rose to your partner but still need an escape plan incase things go awkwardly? Go with the pink. If the partner gets the hint then it can become 'your' color. And if it all spirals downwards, you can always say it was not a 'red rose' so should not be thought about too much.

Red: We all know what this color means. Hand this over if you just want an excuse to give a red rose to someone. Although since it is friendship day, it might seem a bit out of place.
