Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Saturday said he will 'welcome' Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi's entry into the Cabinet.
"I would welcome Rahul Gandhi's entry into the Cabinet," Singh told reporters.
Singh made the remarks on the sidelines of the swearing in ceremony of Hamid Ansari as the Vice-President of the country.
Under criticism by his own party members for not plunging in Congress politics full-fledged, Rahul earlier said he was ready to take the call for a greater participation finally.
Rahul, who faced embarrassment after party leader Salman Khurshid purportedly called his role that of a cameo, said he would play a more pro-active role in the party and in the government.
"The decision has been taken, the timing is upto the leadership," he said.
Congress senior leader and union law minister Salman Khurshid created a fresh controversy recently by calling the role of Rahul in the party as a cameo role in a newspaper interview, but went on to call a press conference later to clarify that his words should not by misinterpreted.
